Medium-sized companies less and less in the hands of women
The proportion of women in SMEs fell to 16% last year. A total of 608,000 small and medium-sized enterprises are headed by a woman. Nine out of ten of these companies are in the service sector. The management of a medium-sized company is increasingly of interest to female academics. The degree of academization among female owners has increased enormously. The economic importance of women-run SMEs should not be underestimated, but remains disproportionately low due to the focus on smaller service companies. Significant impetus for the proportion of female bosses is not in sight in the short term due to the reluctance to found new companies. The laws passed for management positions in large companies have not yet been able to provide a boost either.
“The professional opportunities as an entrepreneur in the SME sector are often not yet recognized. We are trying to counteract this trend, particularly when it comes to company succession,” says Gerlinde Baumer, Managing Director of omegaconsulting and company successor.
