A hackneyed buzzword or a real challenge? omegaconsulting addressed this question together with colleagues from the SME Consultants Association at this year’s autumn conference on November 17-18, 2016 in Berlin.
More than 100 members and guests of the association benefited from interesting presentations by experts, reports from association members and various workshops on the topic. The active discussions at the conference were always held under the motto “SME consultants – digital.innovative.successful”.
Looking back, Jean-Claude Baumer, Managing Director of omegaconsulting, sums up: “We see the topic of digitalization as an opportunity to successfully support our clients in this challenge and at the same time to make our own business model fit for the new requirements.”

New knowledge, new ideas, new contacts, new courage – in line with this motto, omegaconsulting accepted the invitation to MUT 2016 together with the SME Consultants Association on November 3, 2016.

Innovative doers, lateral thinkers, multipliers, trend-setters and decision-makers from Germany and around the world came together for the 12th time at the Congress Center Leipzig to meet their peers: personalities from business, politics and society who wanted to think boldly ahead, act forwards and network even better. In 60 workshops and lectures, at forums, at around 120 presentation stands and in lively discussions, knowledge was transferred, the latest information was passed on, ideas were exchanged and contacts were made. For example, omegaconsulting presented itself as a supra-regional consultancy firm on the topics of corporate succession, corporate development, interim management and corporate restructuring.

Many business leaders – especially in SMEs – are reluctant to deal with the issue of their own succession. As a rule, it is the uncertainties of their personal future, the fear of the unknown handover process and the unwillingness to hand over that seem insurmountable. In practice, it has been shown time and again that one key factor contributes to mastering this challenging task: long-term planning of the “company handover” project. However, it is a fallacy to believe that this ends with the signing of the purchase agreement and the successful completion of the transaction. Whether the handover is ultimately successful depends crucially on the practical handover of the company to the successor.

In line with the motto “Preparation through early planning”, more than 70 entrepreneurs accepted the invitation of the Nuremberg Chamber of Industry and Commerce for Middle Franconia in cooperation with the Erlangen-Höchstadt District Office of Economic Development to the first lecture in the seminar series “Unternehmensnachfolge aktuell” on September 22.

During the event, Mr. Hajek provided a good insight into typical potential conflicts and possible solutions for company succession. He also explained the important interaction between the transferor, the business family and the business throughout the entire process. The participants were given a very good overview of important questions that need to be answered at an early stage as well as the optimal timing of the succession plan.

Managing Director Jean-Claude Baumer also attended the event to answer the numerous questions from those present. Following the event, Jean-Claude Baumer reported: “The lively interest in this event once again shows the great explosiveness of the topic of “company succession”. In our view, one of the most important success factors here is to provide those affected with practical advice at an early stage.”

The blind spot is a completely natural thing. To overcome it, you need the other eye. The same applies to companies. In day-to-day business, entrepreneurs quickly lose sight of the company’s overall development at the expense of their ability to innovate. Dr. Ernst Pechtl, designer of new thought structures, brings “the other eye” and an eye for the essentials. Successful decision-makers who are keen to innovate appreciate his visualization of further perspectives and the associated implementation

Our partner Gudrun Jay-Bößl from Hanover has been a certified “Systemic Structural Constellator according to SyST®” since June 2016. She has successfully completed a three-year training course in business, organizational and team constellations. “Anyone dealing with companies should know the systemic rules – especially in change processes such as succession, purchase and sale. This increases the success factor and reduces decision-making uncertainty. The client can see immediately whether their successor really fits in with the company – and vice versa,” says Gudrun Jay-Bößl, summing up the advantages of systemic structural constellations. The systemic method has now arrived everywhere in business. It produces results within a few hours.

Additional quality modules for consulting practice. Under this motto, the management consultancy omegaconsulting invited its network of consultants to the INQA qualification seminar “Consultant Offensive Mittelstand” at the Schlosshotel in Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe on April 15, 2016. The invitation was accepted by 15 partners from all regions of Germany. As part of the one-day workshop, Claus Heitzer, a qualified Offensive Mittelstand lecturer, explained the methodology and instruments of this SME-oriented consulting concept. In an active discussion with the participants, areas of application in daily consulting activities and the resulting advantages were developed.

In particular, the INQA company check “Good SMEs” offers the possibility of a qualitative company analysis for all important areas. In a systematic and practice-oriented manner, the consultant works together with the entrepreneur to gain a comprehensive overview of the company’s potential and identifies possible areas for action. As members of the “Offensive Mittelstand” specialist group for company succession, omegaconsulting partners use this consulting approach in particular in the context of succession consulting. Through supporting measures in corporate development and innovation, they help entrepreneurs to prepare for and complete a successful business succession.

“The promotion of uniform quality standards in consulting is indispensable, especially in a decentralized organization. With our involvement in the “Offensive Mittelstand”, we want to set another important example of our quality standards,” emphasizes Jean-Claude Baumer, Managing Director at omegaconsulting. “As qualified consultants and lecturers of the Offensive Mittelstand, we also offer our clients an expansion of our consulting portfolio.”

When is the right time to hand over my company? How do I find the right successor? How do I protect myself and the company financially? What will happen to me and my family when I am no longer an entrepreneur? Many companies are blocked because the boss is put off by these questions and therefore prefers not to deal with them. The very personal fears of men and women at the top of companies often disappear behind key figures and balance sheets – or are hidden behind them. It’s good to have a confidant who can help you overcome your fears and make decisions. Here are three examples of how people become a success factor in company succession.
