Fair and respectful separation management requires competent advisors

At omegaconsulting, we bring together what fits together. When employees need to be separated, we help them find a new job that suits them perfectly. Especially today, in times of a lack of young talent and a shortage of skilled workers, it is more important than ever to organize the separation of employees in a fair and respectful manner. Outplacement or career counseling can be extremely helpful here.

However, not all outplacement and career consultants have mastered their craft to the extent that should be expected. In her latest book, our omegaconsulting partner Dr. Cornelia Riechers, who has been running an outplacement and career consulting company herself for more than 30 years, reports on blatant application mistakes made by coaches who have applied to work with her. These range from the wrong form of address to gaps and contradictions in the application documents to a complete lack of understanding of what a career consultant actually does.

In her new book, Cornelia Riechers has listed thirteen typical mistakes that a good career coach would never make so that employers and HR managers – as well as inexperienced applicants – can recognize such frightening incompetence straight away. The reader is also given thirteen tried-and-tested tests that can be used to reliably test the expertise of their advisor. In this way, mistakes can be avoided and the best career advisors can be picked out from the masses. This is not only interesting for applicants, but also for HR managers who want to offer support to departing employees in their professional reorientation – especially if they are dealing with the topic of outplacement/career counseling for the first time.

In the second part of the book, Dr. Cornelia Riechers summarizes the quintessence of her practical knowledge of the application process in ten concise tips. In the third part, the stories of ten former job seekers show how they put these tips into practice and found their dream job with the help of a competent career advisor.

This book not only benefits entrepreneurs and HR managers who (have to) deal with separation processes, but is also useful reading for MBI candidates who are looking for a qualified sparring partner to help them work out their goals and strategies.

The omegaconsulting team not only advises managers on professional reorientation, but also provides companies with all its expertise in downsizing measures, e.g. with advice on separation management, with workshops for managers on the subject of “termination interviews” and, of course, with individually tailored new placement advice, which includes the preparation of references for departing employees.
